About the program
Our signature program, Pitch Craft, showcases the magical process of crafting music, bringing together professional musicians to explore the boundaries of classical and contemporary soundscapes.

The program is designed to seamlessly carry you through a series of sound worlds. Additionally, there are connections in this program that are not so obvious. For example, Toru Takemitsu was a composer in residence at the Aldeburgh Festival, which was founded by Benjamin Britten. Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossom, and Britten's work starts with the line, "in a garden shady."

The first two works are prayers; the third piece, by Richard Rodney Bennett, is about remembrance. Richard Rodney Bennett and Takemitsu shared varied careers, creating everything from film music and pop songs to concert music on opposite sides of the world.

Britten was the central British composer of his time, and one could argue that Holst was too. Britten, Holst and Grainger were all champions of British folk music in their own unique ways.

Ojeijo's Unicornis Captivar takes music that could easily have been written in another era, though he is, in fact, the only living composer on the program. He uses a 12th-century Latin fantasy poem to create a magical world of unicorns and snakes in a pseudo-medieval style, taking us back to where we started.
